Our HERstory
Women's empowerment and serving young people have always been at the center of CEO and founder Alicia Johnson's heart but starting an organization seemed intimidating. However, in 2019 after losing her father, a pillar in her life, she was inspired by his legacy and the influence of her tenacious mother. The pain had annihilated her previous fear of failure and so set out to host a conference with like-hearted women who deserved to combat the "mean-girl" and catty behavior women had come to expect among women. Inspired by a conference she had been a part of before, she reached out to women she trusted in the Longview community (Kay Holmes, Cheteva Marshall, Shameika Allen, and Taylor Taylor. This initial conference was designed to bring women from historically Black or Divine Nine sororities together to show women and girls that not only could women of color work together but they could do so in love and without competition. This first year they reached out to local sorority members and chapters for participation and the event was a great success with over 100 registered to attend. The event was so impactful that the women decided that this could not only be a one-time event but instead an organization dedicated to uniting the body of women. They were inspired by Sojourner Truth who said, " If the first woman God ever made could turn the world upside down then surely all of these women together can turn it right side up again. As the effort grew the team decided to expand their reach and include women outside of Divine Nine Sororirites and with the inclusion of women from even more walks of life, Longview Queens United has touched lives all across the United States with her many programs and powerful initiatives.
